about

Long-winded, obligatory, mundane liner notes by Jimmy in 3...2...1...

Absolved: Southern California positive old school punk rock with a touch of youthcrew hardcore and some metal here and there. And a sense of humor. Imagine that.

Songs 1-13 are from the debut self-titled full length (aka The Red Album) which was recorded at our warehouse practice spot (aka The P-Spot) in Ventura, California and in Carpinteria, California from 2008-2010. Recording and production by J. Sisco. All music (except the cover song) written by J. Sisco, B. Brumit and A. Kelly. All lyrics (except for the cover song) written by J. Sisco. A short double-cd run with 45 hand-made covers was released independently on December 3, 2010 (and later released by Thumper Punk Records). It quickly sold out and has been out of print since early 2011.

Songs 14-19 are from the “This One Goes to Seven” EP which was recorded in 2011. Recording by J. Sisco and B. Magana. Production by J. Sisco. All music (except the cover songs) originally written by J. Sisco, B. Brumit, A. Kelly, and B. Magana. All lyrics (except for the cover songs) written by J. Sisco. The covers for the cds were original pieces of art, each one hand-drawn by the band members (no two covers are alike). A run of 100 covers was made (25 by each band member). The EP was released on Ocober 22, 2011 by Thumper Punk Records.

Song 20 is from “The Candy Cane EP” which was a 7-inch punk rock compilation of Christmas songs released by Veritas Vinyl in 2012. This is a traditional song with arrangement by Absolved. It was recorded in 2011. Recording by J. Sisco and B. Magana. Production by J. Sisco.

Songs 21-24 were recorded during The Red Album sessions. With the exception of song 24, these were released on a bonus cd that came with the original run of The Red Album (which was released as a double disc...one cd of the original 13 songs and the other with songs 21-23 and 25-27 as well as a 2010 full live set from Fort Irwin Army Base).

Song 25 (the first officially recorded song) was recorded in 2008 and songs 26 and 27 were recorded in 2009 at The P-Spot in Ventura, California. Recording and production by J. Sisco. These songs were released on the first two Absolved demo cds (both had a run of 25-30 copies) which quickly went out of print.

On songs 1-13 and 21-27 Absolved was Jimmy Sisco (guitars, vocals),
Byron Brumit (bass), and Aaron Kelly (drums).

On songs 14-20 Absolved was Jimmy Sisco (guitars, vocals), Byron
Brumit (bass, vocals), Aaron Kelly (drums), and Bob Magana (guitars).

All lyrics by Jimmy Sisco, except as follows: “Vespers” contains some lyrics that are from old hymns and ancient writings. “The Few and the Proud” contains some lyrics that are from the esteemed Marine Corps Hymn. “Relentless Leathernecks” contains a quote by Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant Dan Daly, 4 June 1918, at the Battle of Belleau Wood, WWI.

Absolved was founded in 2006 by Jimmy, Byron, and Aaron in Ventura, California, USA. Jimmy and Byron went to the same college in the Los Angeles area and began a punk project in the year 2000 or 2001. Some of the songs written then ended up being Absolved songs eventually (including the music for the newest song, “Absolved”, which was written and demoed in 2000 or 2001). Byron and Aaron had played together in a Ventura ska band called King Size Zero. In 2006 the three came together with Byron as the matchmaker. In 2010 the band added 2nd guitarist Bob who, like Byron and Aaron, had played in Christian ska outfit King Size Zero. The band's highlight had to be opening for the legendary Living Sacrifice on the Ventura stop of the Solid State Records tour. That show (December 3, 2010) was our own official Red Album (debut) release show.

The band went on indefinite hiatus in early 2012. Byron and Bob went on to form pop punk group Hippos of Doom and Jimmy went on to form hardcore band Platoon 1107 (both of whom released music on Thumper Punk Records and Veritas Vinyl).

Jimmy, Byron, and Aaron reunited in 2018 to play Thumper Punk's 10-year anniversary show in the Los Angeles area and recorded a special new song for the occasion, their first new song in 6 years. After a few more years of inactivity, Absolved decided to start working on new songs for some special releases that should see the light of day in 2023.

The band thanks David Aaron (Thumper Punk Records...through which almost all of these songs have been released through!), Jesse Jeremiah (Veritas Vinyl), The Way (Ventura punk rock...RIP), Dalen Muster (our vids and pics), our families, and anyone else that supported the band in one way or another. You know who you are. Thank you very, very much!!!
